Kullu tour from Kangra by car
Kullu is about 185 km from Kangra, roughly five and a half hours through Mandi and the Pandoh gorge, and this is the short one to two-day version — the town, Bijli Mahadev on the ridge above it, and the Parvati turn at Bhuntar. If you want the valley properly, the five-day Kullu and Manali plan is the honest recommendation. Ask Kapil on +91 98053 05643 or Sahil on +91 78075 42573.
About the trip
The valley's beating heart.
Kullu town anchors the valley — the Beas running through it, Dussehra famous the world over, and the Bijli Mahadev ridge rising above. It makes a great short trip on its own or a stop on the way to Manali.
The white-water at Pirdi is the big draw, along with the shawl and handloom workshops, Raghunath temple and the steep, rewarding walk up to Bijli Mahadev.
How it runs from here: Kullu sits directly on the Manali road, so nothing about this trip is a detour — it is simply stopping where most people drive through. Rafting is a morning activity, since the operators shut when the wind gets up in the afternoon. Bijli Mahadev is the other way round: the road up, then an hour's climb, best begun early before the ridge heats. Two days lets you do one properly each morning.

Good to know
Kullu — questions travellers ask
Is Kullu worth visiting on its own, or only on the way to Manali?
Both work. As a short trip it is about 185 km and five and a half hours from Kangra, and two days gives you the rafting, the temples and Bijli Mahadev. Many people fold it into a longer Manali run instead — the town is directly on the road, so it costs nothing extra in distance.
When is Kullu Dussehra?
It falls in October, starting on the day Dussehra ends elsewhere, and runs about a week on the Dhalpur maidan. Hundreds of village deities are carried in — it is one of the great festivals of the Himalaya. It also means the town is full and rooms are scarce, so tell us well in advance if you want those dates.
Where do the shawls actually come from?
The handloom co-operatives and workshops around Kullu and Bhuntar, where you can watch the weaving and buy directly. Kullu shawls carry a geographical indication tag, so look for it. We take people to working units rather than the highway showrooms that pay commissions.
What is the best season?
March to June for the rafting and the orchards in blossom, and September to November for clear air and the Dussehra fair. July and August bring the monsoon and the Beas runs too high for river sport. Winter is cold but the town stays open and quiet.
Can we visit the Great Himalayan National Park from Kullu?
You can reach the buffer zone and the park gate at Sairopa on a day trip, and it is a beautiful drive up the Tirthan side. Going properly into the park means permits, a registered guide and at least a couple of days on foot — for that, look at the Tirthan and Jibhi trip.
Should I do Kullu on its own or with Manali?
Honestly, with Manali. Kullu is five and a half hours from Kangra, so a two-day trip is mostly driving for one afternoon in the valley — it suits people with a specific reason to be in Kullu. If you are coming to see the place, the five-day Kullu and Manali plan is the better use of the same road.
Our price promise
The lowest rate you’ll find for this trip — or we beat it.
We don’t publish a rate card, because an honest fare depends on your dates, your group and the road. What we do promise: ask us before you book anywhere, and if you’re already holding a written quote for the same car, the same route and the same all-in inclusions, send us the screenshot. We’ll beat it — and on the rare trip where we honestly can’t, we’ll tell you straight instead of wasting your day.
