How we drive it.

The Kangra–Kullu road is a fine day of driving — the tea gardens to Palampur, the old Baijnath temple, then over into the Beas valley at Mandi with the river running alongside all the way up to Kullu. It is the gateway to Manali, but Kullu itself rewards a stop: the Dussehra ground, the shawl weavers and the temples above the town.

Bijli Mahadev

The temple on the ridge above Kullu, reached by road then a walk. The valley view from the top is the best in the district.

Parvati valley

Manikaran’s hot springs and gurudwara, and Kasol beyond, turn off at Bhuntar — about an hour from Kullu.

Manali

Another hour up the valley. If Manali is the real destination, we usually recommend going straight there and treating Kullu as a stop.
