Kullu and Manali tour package from Kangra by car
Four to five days covering both valleys by private car. Kangra to Kullu is about 185 km and five and a half hours; Manali is another hour up the Beas. Solang and the Atal Tunnel take a half day each and are best started before ten in the morning. It runs all year, with snow up high from December. About the trip
The Valley of the Gods.
Kullu and Manali are a natural pair — the Beas valley threads them together past temples, orchards and white-water. We give you the time to enjoy both ends without rushing the road between.
Kullu brings river rafting, the shawl weavers and the Bijli Mahadev climb; Manali brings Solang, the Atal Tunnel and the old town. Naggar castle and Manikaran round out the circuit.
How it runs from here: the trick with this pair is not to spend both extra days in the car. We put the Kullu side — rafting, Bijli Mahadev, the looms — on the way in, so the valley is part of the journey rather than a detour, then base you in Manali for the tunnel and the town. The Mandi-to-Kullu stretch along the Beas is the slow part of the drive in season, so we run it early morning where we can.

The plan we run
Day by day.
Day 1 — Day 5
Solang and the Atal Tunnel are the weather-dependent part: in deep winter the tunnel stays open but Solang can be a snow queue, and in peak season the Manali–Solang road is slow after 10am. We leave early for both.

Good to know
Kullu & Manali — questions travellers ask
Why do Kullu and Manali together rather than just Manali?
Because everything between them is worth stopping for, and most itineraries drive straight past it. Kullu gives you the rafting at Pirdi, the shawl workshops, Raghunath temple and the climb to Bijli Mahadev; Naggar castle and Manikaran sit on the same stretch. Doing both means you use the road as part of the trip instead of just enduring it.
Is the river rafting safe, and when does it run?
The Pirdi stretch of the Beas is a graded commercial run with licensed operators, life jackets and guides, and it takes complete beginners. It normally operates from around March to June and again after the monsoon into October. It stops when the river is in spate — and if the operators say no on your day, we will not push it.
How hard is the Bijli Mahadev walk?
The road takes you most of the way; the last stretch is about 3 km of steady climbing, an hour or so up for most people. The view over the Kullu and Parvati valleys from the top is the reward. It is not technical, but it is uphill throughout and best done in the morning.
What is Naggar castle?
The old seat of the Kullu rajas, a timber-and-stone castle above the Beas, now part heritage hotel and part museum. The Nicholas Roerich gallery is just below it — the Russian painter lived here and his Himalayan canvases are worth the stop. It sits neatly between Kullu and Manali.
How many days should we allow?
Four at a minimum, five if you want Manikaran and Naggar without watching the clock. The two driving days at each end are unavoidable from Kangra, so a four-day trip is really three days of valley.
What is the best time for a Kullu and Manali trip?
It runs all year. March to June is the classic season, October and November give the clearest air and thinnest crowds, and December to February is when people come for snow — the Atal Tunnel stays open but Solang can be a queue rather than a drive. July to September brings landslide risk on the Beas valley road.
