About this run

How we drive it

McLeodganj is the slowest place in the valley to leave. The last stretch of road up here is narrow, the drop to Dharamshala is steep, and on a season evening it crawls, so the first hour of a Delhi run from the top of the hill is not like the first hour from anywhere else. We plan for it rather than apologise for it: send us the name of your guesthouse and we confirm where the car will meet you and how long to allow.

After that it is the long southern haul: Dharamshala, Kangra, the Una road and the Ambala highway. Most guests leave after dinner and wake up near Delhi. If twelve hours in one go is too much, stop at Chandigarh about six and a half hours in and finish the next morning with the same car and driver.

Travelling light? The Vande Bharat from Amb Andaura, about three hours from McLeodganj, is often quicker and cheaper for one or two people. We will tell you which we would choose, and drive you to the station if the train wins.

Amb Andaura is about 3 hours from McLeodganj and the Vande Bharat does the rest. For a small group it is faster, cheaper and far less tiring. Ask and we will tell you which we would choose.
