Palampur sits an hour east of us on the Dhauladhar road, and the run there is one of the prettiest hours of driving in the valley — tea gardens on both sides and the range standing straight up behind them.

The work here is a mix. Residents and students at the agricultural university need runs down to Kangra, Gaggal and Tanda. Visitors staying in the tea estates want a car for the day to see Andretta, Bir Billing and Baijnath. And a steady stream of people need the long drive out to Chandigarh or Delhi, which we do direct from Palampur without you first getting yourself to Dharamshala.

Bir Billing is close enough from Palampur to be an easy morning, so paragliding drops and pickups are a regular ask — including the awkward ones, where you take off at Billing and need collecting at the Bir landing ground an hour later.
