About this run
How we drive it
We take Delhi-bound guests out of Dharamshala by the southern road: down the switchbacks to Gaggal and Kangra, then the straight Dehra Gopipur run to Una, where the hills end. It is the road we drive most weeks, so the driver knows where it is quick and where it is not, and a pickup above Kotwali Bazaar gets an extra twenty minutes in the plan, because the top of town is slow to leave.
The overnight is what most people choose. Leave after dinner and the hill section is done while the roads are empty; the Ambala stretch passes in the small hours and you reach an IGI terminal, Gurugram or Noida around sunrise. If you would rather see the road, a dawn start works too, or break the journey at Chandigarh, about six hours down, and finish the next morning.
Travelling as one or two with light bags? We will tell you plainly that the Vande Bharat from Amb Andaura, about three hours from Dharamshala, may suit you better than eleven hours in a car, and drive you to the station instead.

Why overnight wins
Eleven hours in daylight means eleven hours of traffic. Leaving Dharamshala after dinner puts you at the airport around sunrise, which is what most of our Delhi runs actually do.
The train alternative
Amb Andaura is ~3 hrs from Dharamshala and the Vande Bharat runs to Delhi from there. For one or two people it beats the road on both time and cost, and we will say so.
Breaking it
Chandigarh at ~6 hrs is the natural halfway stop if you would rather do this in two easier days.

Which road do you take from Dharamshala to Delhi?
The southern one: Kangra, Dehra Gopipur and Una, then Ropar and the Ambala highway. It keeps the hill driving to the first few hours; from Una onward it is plains highway the rest of the way.
Is it better to leave Dharamshala at night for Delhi?
For most people, yes. Leaving after dinner gets the hill section done on empty roads and puts you in Delhi around sunrise, which suits a morning flight out of IGI. The driver who starts the run finishes it. There is no handover on the way.
Can we stop at Chintpurni on the way down to Delhi?
Yes. Chintpurni is a short detour from the Una stretch, and many families take a last darshan there before the plains. Tell us when you book and we build the halt into the timing and the one fare.
Should we take the train from Amb Andaura instead?
Sometimes. Amb Andaura, the Vande Bharat station, is about three hours from Dharamshala. For one or two people travelling light the train can be quicker and cheaper than the road. We will say so, and do the station run.
