Since the Vande Bharat started running, Amb Andaura has become the fastest way into the Kangra valley from Delhi, and the single most common thing that goes wrong with the journey is the last leg. The station sits in Una district with little onward transport, the trains arrive at hours when there is nothing waiting, and people find themselves negotiating on the station road with luggage and children.

We take that part off you. We follow the train’s live running, and the driver is on the station road when it actually pulls in, however late that is. From there it is a straight drive up: about two hours to Kangra, two and a half to Dharamshala, a little more to McLeodganj.

Our cars are based in Kangra, not at Amb. That is why these are pre-booked rather than hailed — tell us the train and we set off in time to be there before you are. Chintpurni and Jwala Ji both sit close to the road up, so a darshan halt on the way is easy to build into the same fare if you want one.

The morning train is the good one

Arriving at Amb in the morning lets the transfer absorb Chintpurni and Jwala Ji. An evening arrival is just a transfer.

Amb town vs the station

Amb Andaura station and Amb town are not the same place. Say which you want; they are a few kilometres apart.

How do I get from Amb Andaura station to Dharamshala or Kangra?

By pre-booked car. There is very little waiting at the station. Kangra is about two hours and Dharamshala about two and a half. One all-in fare covers the run into Kangra.

Do you track the Vande Bharat if it runs late?

Yes. We follow the train’s live running so the driver is on the station road when it actually arrives.

Can we stop at Chintpurni or Jwala Ji on the way up?
