What the road is like

One of the easier roads out of the valley — largely straight running through Dehra Gopipur and Amb, which is why the Vande Bharat transfers from Amb Andaura are comfortable even pre-dawn.

Una is where the plains stop and Himachal starts, and Dharamshala is three hours further up. By bus that is a change and most of a day; by car it is a single steady climb with the Dhauladhar in front of you for the last hour.

The road goes past Chintpurni, so a darshan halt costs you very little time and is the thing most families ask for. Jwala Ji is close as well if you want both.

We are a Kangra firm, about two and a half hours north of Una, so this is a pre-booked run rather than one you flag down. Give us the time — including a train or bus arrival — and the car will be there before you are.

Chintpurni and Jwala Ji are both on this road. Building them into the transfer rather than making separate trips is the single best use of this route.
