One of the easier roads out of the valley — largely straight running through Dehra Gopipur and Amb, which is why the Vande Bharat transfers from Amb Andaura are comfortable even pre-dawn.

This is the last leg of the fastest route from Delhi to Dharamshala, and the leg most people leave to chance. The Vande Bharat gets you to Amb Andaura in comfort; then you step out onto a quiet station road in Una district with your luggage and find there is very little waiting. Pre-booking removes that whole problem.

The drive climbs steadily out of Una district and into the Kangra valley, and the last half hour is the good part — the Dhauladhar comes up in the windscreen and stays there. Two and a half hours is honest for the run; we do not quote you two to win the booking and then arrive late.

The morning train works best

Arriving at Amb in the morning leaves the whole afternoon in Dharamshala, and lets you fit Chintpurni or Jwala Ji into the transfer instead of losing a day to them later.

Going back

Same in reverse, and the timing is tighter — we leave Dharamshala with a real buffer because the descent is the unpredictable part.
