What the road is like

One of the easier roads out of the valley — largely straight running through Dehra Gopipur and Amb, which is why the Vande Bharat transfers from Amb Andaura are comfortable even pre-dawn.

How we drive it.

This is the road home for us, and we drive it constantly in both directions. Ninety kilometres, two and a half hours, and two of the six Devi shrines sitting more or less on the route.

A lot of these bookings are people arriving at Una by train from Delhi or Punjab and needing to get into the Kangra valley the same day. Buses run but they are slow and full, and with luggage or elders it is a hard afternoon.

Because Kangra is our base, the return direction is even easier — a Kangra to Una drop can be arranged at very short notice.

Kangra Fort and the Brajeshwari Devi temple are both in town and take an easy half-day between them.

Masroor

The rock-cut temples are about 40 minutes out — carved from a single ridge and almost always empty. The valley’s most underrated thing.

Tanda

If you are coming for the medical college, say so and we drop at the right block rather than the main gate.
