About this run
How we drive it
This is the hill-station swap most Dharamshala guests make next, and the first half is gentler than people expect: down off the ridge and west along the valley floor through Shahpur and Jassur to Nurpur. Nurpur fort and the old Brij Raj Swami temple sit just off the road there, and they make a good leg-stretch before the part of the day that needs a steady stomach.
That part is the Chowari climb — properly windy for about an hour, with the Pir Panjal appearing near the top. If anyone in the group gets car sick, say so when you book; we pace it differently and stop at the pass. Dalhousie is spread along a ridge, so a daylight arrival makes your hotel easier to find, and Khajjiar is best kept for a full day after, through the Kalatop forest.

Is the road from Dharamshala to Dalhousie very windy?
The middle third is — about an hour of bends on the Chowari climb. The first part, to Nurpur, is easy valley driving. Tell us if anyone travels badly and we pace it with stops rather than pushing through.
Can we see Nurpur fort on the way to Dalhousie?
Yes. The fort ruins and the Brij Raj Swami temple are just off the road at Nurpur, about an hour and a half in, and a short halt there fits easily into the four-hour drive.
Is the Chowari road open in winter?
Chowari Jot can hold snow in January and February. We watch the road, start earlier when it has snowed, and tell you straight if it is not worth attempting that day.
