About this run
How we drive it
A lot of our guests end a week in the hills at the Golden Temple, and we time the drive around what they want there rather than around the road. If Wagah is on the list, everything works backwards from the ceremony: it is late afternoon, about 30 km outside Amritsar, and the seats worth having go early, so the day starts early in Dharamshala.
If Wagah is not the point, there is no hurry. The Golden Temple never closes, and the quiet hours between midnight and dawn are the best time to be there; an evening arrival with an early darshan the next morning beats the daytime queue. Flying out? We drop at ATQ with a margin for the city traffic built in, not guessed.

Can we do the Golden Temple and Wagah on the day we leave Dharamshala?
Yes, with an early start. We plan the day backwards from the Wagah ceremony, leaving Amritsar for the border about two hours before it, and fit darshan in before that. For a relaxed visit many guests stay one night.
When is the best time to visit the Golden Temple?
It never closes, and between midnight and dawn it is quiet and free of the daytime queue. If you reach Amritsar in the evening, an early-morning darshan the next day is usually the better experience.
Can you drop us at Amritsar airport for an onward flight?
Yes. One-way drops to ATQ are routine. Send the flight number and we set the Dharamshala pickup time with a margin for the city traffic at the end.
