About the trip
To the last village on the old road.
Kinnaur is the Himachal fewer travellers reach — the Sutlej cutting a deep gorge, apple orchards and chilgoza pine on the slopes, and the snow pyramid of Kinnaur Kailash watching over it all. The old Hindustan–Tibet road threads the valley, carved into the cliffs.
The green Sangla valley leads to Chitkul, the last inhabited village before the Tibet border, and Kalpa looks straight across at Kinnaur Kailash from its wooden temples. We drive the whole route from Kangra, with halts timed to the mountain light.

Kangra to Narkanda
The drive up via Shimla to Narkanda, on the ridge above the apple country.

Along the Sutlej past Rampur and Karcham into the Baspa valley; night at Sangla.

Chitkul
Up the valley to Chitkul, the last village, and back — Kamru fort and the riverside on the way.

Sangla to Kalpa
To Reckong Peo and Kalpa, facing the Kinnaur Kailash; the Narayan-Nagini temple and the Roghi village viewpoint.

Kalpa to Kangra
The long homeward drive down the valley and back to the Dhauladhar.
