About this run

How we drive it.

Mandi is the hinge of Himachal — the point where the Kullu road, the Shimla road and the Kangra valley all meet — and Dharamshala is four hours west of it.

The road through Jogindernagar and Baijnath is the pretty way into our valley, dropping gradually with the Dhauladhar coming up ahead. Baijnath’s Shiva temple and Bir Billing both sit on it.

A lot of these bookings are people finishing a Kullu or Spiti trip and crossing over to Dharamshala before flying out of Gaggal, so we often carry straight on to the airport the next morning.

Once you reach Dharamshala

The pleasant crossing

Four hours, mostly through tea gardens and temple towns rather than gorge. It is the nicest of the roads between the two valleys.

Chamunda Devi

On the road, about an hour short of Dharamshala. Adding it costs very little.

Bir if there is flying

The landing field is visible from the road. If the wind is right it is worth twenty minutes just to watch.
