About the trip
Kumaon's lakes and a tiger jungle.
Kumaon is Uttarakhand's gentler corner — Nainital gathered around its eye-shaped lake, the quieter waters of Bhimtal and Sattal, and the cantonment calm of Ranikhet with the snow line on the horizon. It makes an easy, cool escape well away from the crowds of the western hills.
An hour down from the lakes lies Jim Corbett, India's oldest national park, where a morning jeep safari through Bijrani or Dhikala sal forest may turn up elephant, deer and — for the lucky — a tiger. We drive you the whole loop from Kangra and back.
How it runs from here: Kumaon is a long way east of us — around 600 km, two days out with a night on the way. Once you are there the distances are short. Corbett is the part to plan first: safari zones are allotted by online permit weeks ahead, Dhikala fills earliest, and the park's core zones close through the monsoon from mid-June to mid-November. We book around what is actually open on your dates rather than promising a zone we cannot get.

How far is Nainital from Kangra, and how long is the drive?
It is a long cross-country drive of roughly 600 km, so we treat the first day as a travel day and reach Nainital by evening. Most families do the tour in 5 to 6 days including both drives. If you prefer, we can meet you at a railway station like Kathgodam and run the Kumaon loop from there.
What is the best time for Nainital and Jim Corbett?
Nainital is pleasant almost year-round — cool in summer (April–June), misty in the monsoon, and cold with occasional snow in winter. Corbett's safari zones are generally open from mid-October to mid-June (the core Dhikala zone closes in the monsoon). October to February is ideal for both.
Do you book the Corbett safari and permits?
The jeep safari and zone permits are issued by the forest department and are limited, so we help you plan and book ahead for a zone like Bijrani, Jhirna or Dhikala. Morning and afternoon safaris run daily in season. We handle the driving and logistics; the safari jeep and guide inside the park are the department's.
Can we add Mussoorie or Rishikesh to this trip?
Yes. Nainital and Corbett sit in eastern Uttarakhand, while Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Haridwar are to the west, so the two can be joined into a longer Uttarakhand loop. Tell us your total days and we combine them sensibly rather than doubling back.
