Katra is about 330 km from Kangra, around eight hours out through Pathankot and Jammu, so three to four days is the comfortable shape — arrive, rest, climb the next morning. About the trip
The Mother's call, the easy way.
Vaishno Devi is among the most visited shrines in the country — the holy cave of the Mata set high in the Trikuta hills above Katra. We take the worry out of the journey: a comfortable private car from your door in Kangra, an overnight halt on the way, and a relaxed start so the elders stay fresh for the climb.
From Katra it is a 12 km yatra to the bhawan — on foot, by pony, palki or helicopter, all of which we help you arrange. We wait in Katra and bring you home whenever your darshan is done, with no clock-watching.
How it runs from here: the eight-hour run to Katra is the part that tires people out before the climb, so with older travellers we break it or arrive in the evening and keep the darshan for a fresh morning. Once you are at Katra the car cannot follow — we park and wait, with no time limit on how long the yatra takes you. That is the whole point of a private car for this trip rather than a bus: nobody is waiting to leave.

How long is the drive from Kangra to Katra?
About 330 km and eight hours, via Pathankot and Jammu. It is a long day, so we usually start early and, for groups with elders, break it at Jammu or reach Katra by evening and keep the darshan for the next morning rather than climbing tired.
How long is the yatra from Katra to the bhawan?
About 12 km of paved track climbing to roughly 1,585 m. On foot it takes four to six hours up depending on pace and queues, and rather less coming down. Ponies, palki, battery cars for parts of the route, and helicopters to Sanjichhat are all available — we help arrange whichever suits your group.
Do we need to register before the yatra?
Yes. Every pilgrim needs a free Yatra Parchi from the shrine board, obtained online or at the Katra registration counter, and you must carry photo ID. Helicopter tickets and battery car slots book separately and go fast in season. We will tell you what to book and when.
Where do you wait while we do the darshan?
In Katra. The car cannot go beyond the base, so we park up and wait however long the darshan takes — we do not put a clock on it. If you are doing the helicopter or an overnight at the bhawan, tell us and we will simply be there when you come down.
When is the best time to go?
March to October for comfortable weather. Navratri in spring and autumn is the most auspicious and by far the most crowded, with long waits for darshan. Winter is cold and the upper track can ice over, though the shrine stays open. Whatever the season, an early start beats the queue.
Can we add Bhairavnath temple?
Yes, and tradition holds the yatra is incomplete without it. It is a further 2 km and a steep climb above the bhawan, or a short ropeway ride. Allow an extra hour or two for it when you plan the day.
