Baijnath sits at the far eastern end of our valley, where the Kangra road starts climbing toward Mandi. The thirteenth-century Shiva temple is the reason most people stop, and it is one of the few in the region that stayed standing through the 1905 earthquake.
For us the town is mostly a gateway. Bir and Billing are fifteen minutes up the road, so a large part of the work is paragliding traffic — pilots and passengers up to the Billing take-off, and the collection from the Bir landing ground afterwards. Barot valley and the Chhota Bhangal side start here too.
Getting out of Baijnath by public transport means a long bus down the valley, so pre-booked cars to Gaggal airport and Amb Andaura station are the other steady ask. We do those direct, with the driver setting off from Kangra early enough to be with you well before you need to leave.

Baijnath and Bir are ten minutes apart and make one day, not two — the temple in the morning, the flying valley after.

Best before the buses. The Nagara stonework repays a slow walk around the outside, which most visitors skip entirely.

The take-off site, 14 km above Bir on a rough road. Even without flying, the view down the valley from up there is the best in the district.

Flying is weather, not schedule
Billing flies when the wind allows. Autumn is the most reliable window; a booked slot in July may simply not happen, and no operator can promise otherwise.
The Billing road
Rough, narrow and steep. Our cars do it, but say if anyone in the group would rather not — the valley is worth seeing from Bir regardless.
Barot
About two hours on through Jogindernagar — trout, forest and very little else. A day of its own rather than an add-on.

Yes. The road up to Billing is steep and narrow but perfectly drivable, and we do it regularly. We can also collect you at the Bir landing ground after you fly.
How do we get from Baijnath to Gaggal airport?
By pre-booked car — it is about 65 km and two hours down the valley, and there is no quick public option. We start early from Kangra so the car is with you in good time.
Do you go on to Barot or Manali from Baijnath?
Yes. Baijnath is where the road to Mandi and the Barot valley turns off, so onward runs to Barot, Mandi, Kullu and Manali are straightforward from here.
